father in Alabama;
● Stephen Kennedy brought her, her
brothers, Ben & Augustus Kennedy, and her first-born child,
Elvina, to Leake County, MS in 1850. He and his wife,
Mary Caldwell, and their children settled near Lena and then near
Hillsboro in Scott County by 1860;
● While enslaved on Stephen Kennedy's farm, Lucy had 6 children, who
were probably fathered by Stephen and/or his brother. Oral history claims that
their father was white. According to the 1860 Scott County
Slave Schedule, seven of Stephen D. Kennedy's nine slaves were
classified as mulattoes;
● After the War, Lucy married
Wright Cherry, who was originally from North Carolina, and had
four additional children;
● Lucy's brother, Augustus (Gus) Kennedy, also a mulatto,
married a lady named Elvira and had the following children:

named Ann Bobbitt and had a son named Rufus Kennedy, who was known

Research findings indicate that he was first enslaved by Jesse Bass
of Nash County, NC;
● In 1822, Jesse Bass bequeathed in his will a young slave named "Bob"
to his daughter, Frances Bass. "Bob" is believed to be Big Bob Ealy. Frances later married William W. Eley of Franklin
County, North Carolina. William & Frances Eley left North
Carolina shortly before 1840, taking Bob with them to Leake County,
Mississippi. Bob never saw his family members again.
● Family oral history claims that "Masser Billy" Eley used Big Bob as a
stud slave because he was a stout man, and he fathered many children
by enslaved women of nearby farms. However, I can only find the
names of the children he had with his wife, Jane Parrott.

William, Boney, Trudie, & Curtis Parrott. George Parrott had 13
children: Jessie, Coleman, Mary, Maud, Raff, Pearlie,
Lillian, Mandy, Tom, George, Lou Ella, Hattie, and Jethro Parrott.
● It is also believed that Jane Ealy had a third younger brother named
Simon Parrott.
